Tuesday 1/7: A Novel Idea on Passyunk will host a celebration for the release of 2031, Jim Trainer’s sixth full-length poetry collection. Featuring readings from Jim Trainer, Rob Kaniuk, and Maleka Fruean. 7 p.m. at A Novel Idea on Passyunk.

Wednesday 1/8: Wooden Shoe Books and Records will host the release of Daralyse Lyons’s latest novel Yoga Cocaine. 7 p.m. at Wooden Shoe Books and Records.

Thursday 1/9: Head to the Rosenbach for a discussion with Samuel R. Delany and Michael Swanwick on science fiction of the 1960s. 6 p.m. at The Rosenbach.

Creative at the Cannery will present readings by Royce Drake, Uddipana Goswami, Bryon MacWilliams, and Jenny Raphael, followed by an open mic. 7 p.m. at Dock Street Cannery + Lounge.

Big Blue Marble Bookstore will host a reading by the fiction writers and poets of the Arcadia University Creative Writing MFA Program. 7 p.m. at Big Blue Marble Bookstore. 

Saturday 1/11: Join the Caucus of Working Educators Racial Justice Committee for an interactive session on having discussions about racism using There There, the One Book, One Philadelphia selection by Tommy Orange. 12 p.m. at Parkway Central Library.

Monday 1/13: Shakespeare & Co. will host a book signing and discussion with Karen Heenan, author of Songbird: A Novel of the Tudor Court. 6:30 p.m. at Shakespeare & Co. Rittenhouse.

The January edition of Poems Night will feature readings by Amelia Longo and others TBA, followed by a lottery-style open mic. Hosted by Stephanie Czapla. Doors at 6:30 p.m. at HOT•BED.

Painted Bride Quarterly will host a reading by local poet and musician Jonathon Todd, whose debut chapbook Over/Time is out now on Moonstone Press. 7:30 p.m. at Black Sheep Pub & Restaurant.
